From class slips to the secretary's report
Set up your classes once: name, department, teacher and how many are on roll. On Sunday, type each class's slip in, one class to a screen. The page asks for counts only, no names. The report, the department and school totals, and the comparison with last Sunday and the same Sunday a year ago fill in as you type. Starting partway through the year? Go back with the arrows and copy earlier Sundays in from your record book, and add your old record attendance under Backup and settings.
Averages, highs and the year's totals
The quarter and year view gives each class, department and the whole school its average, high Sunday, visitors, new members and offering, beside the period before. Pick a single month under Period for a monthly report. Print it for the business meeting, or download a spreadsheet for your association's annual report.
Questions secretaries ask
What goes in a Sunday school secretary's weekly report?
For each class: how many are on roll, members present, teachers, visitors, new members, Bibles brought and the offering. Then department and school totals, with last Sunday and the same Sunday a year ago beside them. Meyer's 1912 record book kept most of these, and Bogard Press's Form 106-S adds Bibles brought.
How do I work out average attendance for the quarter?
Add up the attendance for every Sunday in the quarter and divide by the number of Sundays the school met. That is the rule printed in Meyer's record book. The page does it for each class, department and the whole school. A Sunday a class did not report is left out of that class's average.
Who counts in total attendance?
Members present, teachers and visitors in every class, plus general officers who are not in a class, such as the superintendent, secretary or pianist. Meyer's book totals officers, teachers, scholars and visitors the same way. Percent present is members present out of members on roll.
What numbers go on the church attendance board?
Concordia Publishing House's register board slide set has Attendance today, last Sunday and a year ago, Record attendance, Offering today, last Sunday and a year ago, Record offering, and Enrollment. Tick your board's lines and print them large for whoever changes the cards.
What is the six-point record system?
A Southern Baptist record where each member earns points every Sunday: Sunday school attendance 20, on time 10, Bible brought 10, offering 10, prepared lesson 30, preaching attendance 20, for 100 in all. Arthur Flake gives these values for departments above Primary. Grades here average the points over everyone on roll, our reading of Flake. Turn it on under Backup and settings.
What happens at the start of a new year?
Nothing needs closing. Keep entering Sundays: the summaries follow the date, last year stays for the a-year-ago figures, and your classes carry on. At promotion time, change class names, teachers and rolls under Classes and teachers. Pick the month your year starts under Backup and settings.
Where is the record kept, and how do I hand it on?
Only on this computer or phone, in this browser, saved after every number you type. Nothing is sent anywhere. A broken computer or cleared browser history would lose it, so download a backup about once a month and keep it safe. The next secretary opens that file on their own computer and carries on.
